Lake Chatuge Fishing
Lake Chatuge is a hugely popular spot to enjoy Fishing in Georgia. This 7,050 acre lake is found along the
Hiwassee River and was constructed by the Tennessee Valley Authority. After its creation in 1942, Lake Chatuge
served as a retreat destination for those fortunate enough to own a North Georgia Cabin or vacation home here. Today, its shores are beautifully preserved, and the
Lake Chatuge Real Estate found along the banks is widely sought after. Learn more about Lake Chatuge’s clear waters and the phenomenal Georgia Fishing and Georgia Bass Fishing found here.
For several years, Lake Chatuge
was the best place in all of Georgia to enjoy smallmouth
Bass Fishing in Georgia. In fact, the state record
smallmouth bass, weighing in at 7 lbs 2 oz, came out of Lake Chatuge. Today, spotted bass seems to be the dominant species in the lake, however, some have reported catching blueback
herring which was introduced to Lake Chatuge in 1996. Because Lake Chatuge
straddles the border North Carolina and Georgia, these two states have a reciprocal license agreement, allowing license holders from either state to fish on Lake Chatuge while in a boat. If you are enjoying Lake Chatuge Fishing on the shoreline or on a dock however, you will need to hold a proper fishing license for the state that you are in.
